Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) held an International Conference on Innovation in Education on Thursday to Friday (September 6-7, 2018) in order to enliven the Teacher Education Institute Forum Leader Summit for Indonesia Postgraduate Study Program (FORPIMPAS) of 2018.
The conference was held in the Auditorium of UNP and followed by around 500 staff executives of Postgraduate program which were consisted of the Directors, Vice-Directors, Coordinator of the Teacher Education Institute (LPTK) for magister and doctoral program throughout Indonesia, lecturers, researchers, postgraduate students, and education observers.
The conference was attended and opened by the Minister of Research and Technology, Directorate General of Higher Education, where in this case was represented by the Director General of Science and Technology resources, Prof. Dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Not only Prof. Dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D., this activity was also attended by the Rector of UNP, Prof. Ganefri, Ph. D., Board of Vice Rectors, Directors for Postgraduate study, Deans, Vice Deans, Leaders of Institutions and Bureaus, the Head of FORPIMPAS where in this case was represented by Prof. Dr. Bornok Sinaga, M.Pd., and the ranks of the keynote speakers who are coming from local and abroad.
The conference discussed about the current issues on education in Indonesia including literacy, National Education, curriculum development for doctors by research programs, management and postgraduate governance, academic, and also journal publication.
Rector of UNP, Prof. Ganefri, and the Head of FORPIMPAS where in this case was represented by Prof. Dr. Bornok Sinaga, M.Pd., hoped that this activity could be the key for future of LPTK development namely through the implementation of clear work in the future. So that, it could be beneficial for the development of all postgraduate programs in Indonesia, both in increasing innovation in education and in improving the existing research in order to face the challenges of the digital era of the industrial revolution 4.0.
With the international conference indexed by Thomson Reuters, Google Scholar, DOAJ (directory of open access journal), and Atlantis press, it was expected that this activity can be the forum for academics to improve their scientific publications and innovations in education.
The opening ceremony was enlivened by a variety of traditional cultures of Minangkabau such as, pasambah dance, silat, tari piring, and so on.
This conference presented five keynote speakers from various countries namely Prof. Dr. Inge Schwank (University of Cologne, Institute for mathematic education, Germany), Dr. G Feedat Boriboon (University of Srinakharinwirot, Bangkok, Thailand), Prof. Dr. Mansor bin Abu Talib (University son Malaysia, Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Ismet Fanany (Deakin University, Australia), and Prof. Dr. Nurhizrah Gistituati (Padang State University, Indonesia).
