In order to develop national education specifically in the field of Special Education, the Special Education Department of Faculty of Education Universitas Negeri Padang (PLB FIP UNP) held an International Conference on Special Education and Social Inclusion (ICSESI) on Monday to Tuesday (September 10-11, 2018) at Auditorium Faculty of Education Universitas Negeri Padang.
The conference which took theme “Improving Special Education Quality And Social Inclusion at Digital Era” was followed by around 100 participants who are coming from lecturers, researchers, academics, teachers for special education, and education observers.
The conference was opened by the Rector of Universitas Negeri Padang which was represented by the Dean of Faculty of Education Universitas Negeri Padang (FIP UNP).
On his speech, the Dean, Dr. Alwen Bentri, M.Pd., said that this conference’s theme issues is important to explore because it will make significant impact to education in special education especially in this global era.
Dr. Alwen Bentri, M.Pd added that with some experts who were be the keynote speakers on this conference, all issues about will be discussed comprehensively for the better development of national education, especially on special education such as in curriculum development, teaching methods, and so on.
The Chief Executive of the event, Prof. Dr. Mega Iswari, M.Pd., also said that the event was realized in the framework to provide services to special needs children in West Sumatera province in the form of inclusive schools.
Not only the Dean, the Vice-Dean of Faculty of Education UNP, the keynote speakers who are coming from local and abroad, special guest, and also participants are attended on this event. Arif Firman, a student from the Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Padang (PLB FIP UNP) who passed the final of the Indonesian Dangdut League in 2018, also presented to encourage the ICSESI conference.
The opening ceremony was enlivened by a variety of traditional cultures of Minangkabau such as, tari pasambahan, pencak silat, tari piring, and so on.
This conference presented Prof. David Evans from Australia, Kanokporn Vigulpatanavong, Ph.D from Thailand, Prof. Mohd Hanafi from Malaysia, and Prof. Mega Aswari from Universitas Negeri Padang as the keynote speakers. (Public Relations of UNP/Translated by Shilva Lioni)
