Witnessing Pasambahan dance became an ordinary sight to the Rector of Universitas Negeri Padang and his honored guests on their way heading to the Auditorium Building of UNP every time the beginning of graduation procession. The Pasambah dance activity is a moment to immortalize the Minang culture.
At the 112th Graduation Ceremony of UNP which was held on the Auditorium of UNP from Saturday to Monday (September 15-17), the Pasambahan dance which was supervised by the Vice-Rector III of UNP, Prof. Ardipal, was performed for three times. Prof. Ardipal said that the provision of “siriah” is to maintain the Minang culture. “Siriah” symbolizes simplicity, brotherhood, and togetherness.
Besides of Pasambahan, “Silat” which has become an identity for the Minangkabau people also accompanied the initiation of giving “siriah” to honored guests. It also accompanied by Minang traditional music, so that the moment is really impressed the guest of honor who attended the event.
Prof. Ardipal said that the Pasambahan dance that was shown in the 112th Graduation Ceremony of UNP was not an ordinary dance. The young generations who involved were those who worked on the Minang traditional arts well.
"The presence of Pasambahan dance on every graduation of UNP was in order to provide an insight to the importance of preserving the Minangkabau cultural customs to the society especially attendance people", Prof. Ardipal added. (Public Relations of UNP)
