President of the Commissioner of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Andrinof Chaniago inspired hundreds of college students from West Sumatera in a general lecture which was held on the Senate Meeting Room of UNP on Friday (November 16). In his lecture, he invited students to become successful entrepreneurs.
"The paradigm of success as an entrepreneur certainly cannot be experienced by everyone on this life. To make this happen, it takes a lot of effort and hard work because a lot of success story is worthy to be an example," Andrinof said at the Rectorate Building of UNP.
He asked students on various occasions to try on creating businesses and be brave to get out of their comfort zones to start their own businesses. Multiple effects will be realized when there are many new entrepreneurs.
At nowadays, he said that the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is still around three percent of the population where it still less than other countries such as Malaysia (5 percent), Singapore (7 percent), and Japan (11 percent).
"For this reason, I have always stimulated the rise of student interested on entrepreneurship. The younger generation can be more competing to show the superiority of their products and services. This condition certainly effected to the creating of optimism for the presence of new chance to the economic growth," he said.
Furthermore, the Former Head of Bapenas said that the expansion of opportunities to the quality work and entrepreneurship is an effort to reduce economic inequality.
He said that future students must be able to create productive jobs by trying to attract investments that can absorb labor.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UNP, Prof. Ganefri revealed that the development of digital economy in Indonesia has good opportunities in the future. It can be seen from the massive innovation on digital economic by the economic actors in expanding their business.
"Online shopping is progressing as well as online transportation and so on. Seeing this prospect, the desire and hope of making students in the Minang area to be smart in utilizing digital technology is needed," he said.
The general lecture was held along with the socialization of the ASEAN’s Economic Community (MEA) which took themed "The New Indonesian Entrepreneurship Paradigm". The event was attended by 10 delegates from each university in West Sumatera, such as Unand, UIN, ISI Padang Panjang, Politeknik Negeri Padang, and others.
Andrianof began his general lecture by directly revealing the reality experienced by students and by the question and answer session which opened the opportunity for students to interact as widely as possible.
On the event, the Vice-Rector III of UNP, Prof. Ardipal, the Rector of Dharma Andalas, the Head of UPT PKK, Asmar Yulastri, Ph.D., and Dr. Marwan also attended. (Public Relations of UNP/Translated by: Shilva Lioni)
