Collaborating With PERKAMA International, Department Of Guidance And Counseling Holds Drug Addiction Counselor Competency Certification

Padang, May 1, 2024 – The Department of Guidance and Counseling (BK) of the Faculty of Education (FIP), Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) took a step forward in improving the competence of lecturers by holding an International Certification of Drug Addiction Counselor Competence. The activity aims to support the development of qualified human resources in overcoming the problem of drug abuse.

 In a duration of 5 days, starting from May 1 to 5, 2024, a total of 32 intensive hours were held, including practice and evaluation. The speakers came from Perkama International, ACREDA (Asian Centre for Research on Drug Abuse), and MADAC (Malaysian Association of Drug Addiction Counselors), including Prof. Dr. Dato’ Abd Halim Mohd Hussin, Dr. dr. Zetty Nadia Mohd Zain, Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Rushdan Mohd Jailani, and Prof. Madya Dr. Amin Al Haadi bin Shafie.

In his speech, the Dean of FIP expressed his hope that the BK Department of FIP UNP will become a pioneer in the education and certification of addiction counselors, as well as a leader in drug abuse prevention efforts. In addition, the Dean of FIP UNP also emphasized that he would strengthen cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to support more effective prevention efforts.

With this certification, it is expected that the lecturers of the BK Department of FIP UNP will be more qualified in providing counseling services for the community, especially in handling cases of drug abuse. This is a strategic step in supporting the fight against drug abuse at the local and national levels. In addition, a strategic step that will be taken is to prepare a concentration of addiction counselors in the future.

The Department of Counseling FIP UNP is committed to continue developing programs that are relevant to the challenges of the times, as well as playing an active role in efforts to prevent and handle drug abuse in the community. (zd/Humas UNP)
