UNP Holds The 10th International Public Lectures: Higher Education And The Potential Of Halal Tourism In West Sumatra

Padang- Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) held another International Public Lectures Series with the theme “International Higher Education Cooperation Policy & Halal in National and Global Context.” The event conducted at the Mursal Esten Theatre Building, Faculty of Language & Arts (FBS) UNP, on Wednesday (13/12) was a collaboration between UNP and The Eurasia Foundation

The vice rector of UNP for Academic Affairs represented by Dr. Nofrion as the PIC of Eurasia Foundation for UNP explained that this activity was a part of UNP participation in Eurasia Foundation Global Community along with other 540 universities across the globe. The event held regularly every Wednesday from 9 AM to 12 AM Jakarta time aims to provide insight to students on the diversity that exists in the world. 

In the lecture delivered by Prof. Yasri, MS, a vice rector for cooperation and information systems of UNP as the first speaker in this 10th lecture series, he outlined UNP’s journey to World Class University recognition. “As a new university on the World Class University scene, this achievement represents a very positive first step for UNP”.  He further states “We are committed to continuously improving the quality of education, research, and community service to maintain our position on the international level”. Prof. Yasri, MS emphasized the important role of all elements of the UNP academic community in bringing this university to achieve higher rankings in the future.

Prof. Yunia Wardi, M.Si, Rector of Nahdlatul Ulama University of West Sumatra, delivered the next session. He brought up the topic of West Sumatra’s potential for halal tourist destinations. “West Sumatra has a lot of potential as a halal tourist destination with its cultural and natural wealth which can attract tourists from all over the world,” said Prof. Yunia. He explained that the halal aspect encompasses not only food but also accommodation, recreation, and the overall tourist experience. In this regard, West Sumatra features a number of attractions that cater to Muslim visitors, such as hotels that offer halal-compliant amenities and services.

This activity is a positive step for UNP in establishing international cooperation, enriching student knowledge, and supporting the development of halal tourism in West Sumatra. (AB / Public Relations)
